Water of life or the unreal river

The vivid water or the unreal river

Agnieszka and Piotr!
Piotr and Agnieszka!

I dedicate "The vivid water",
to you with great tenderness

and everlasting nostalgia.

Cracow, the 6th of April 2000.

My Dearest!

Water is magic. I became aware of that in the spring of 1996 when I visited the president of the urban water service to discuss Lajkonik procession. It was Talilis of Miletu who had already mentioned that water is the essence of the universe. In percentage terms our planet should rather be called Water instead of Earth. Water gives life, everything passes and constantly alters. The vivid water surrounds us unceasingly: it roars, murmurs, drips, overflows and splashes. It clears, washes away a sin and dirt, brings back beauty and youth. Water can get changed into wine. Sometimes it is really pressing.

I called to Agnieszka Osiecka. After the enthusiastic: Yes! Yes!, poems appeared: The vivid water, The unreal river, the underground river. I was slightly astonished. I would first prefer to sing about the source of life, about pure, crystalline water. Suddenly in the spring of 1997, Agnieszka, followed by Piotr set off with the river current into the unknown space.  And me? By the vast and pure water in Sopot on the 26th of July that year I managed to put on the first performance. The composers, especially Zygmunt Konieczny and Andrzej Zarycki got really involved. Ewa Lipska wrote a new verse to the so called ecological song /The source of life/ so that it had an optimistic ending, which I wished for. I adapted a few songs which had appeared before in different contexts. Shortly before the first performance Andrzej Zarycki wrote music to Agnieszka's poem about the 20th century- The waltz ending, which I ordered 2 years earlier. I got enchanted. Musicians quickly joined me willingly, sharing their versatile performing and adapting talents. Water splashed and overflowed throughout the whole performance and in the end we entered the sea. In the spring of 1998 the Polish TV recorded a concert in Cracow, and showed it late at night on the 1st of November on All Saints' Day. To tell the truth, it was on the 2nd of November on All Souls' Day.

Meanwhile Zygmunt Konieczny was composing music to the poem written by Leszek Dlugosz entitled The night calls from Piotr S.
„I wrote difficult, complicated and irregular music just like his life was" - the composer explained, smiling  when I complained about difficulties with its performance. Now the spring has come again and the work is over. I am tremendously pleased. I would like to thank all good spirits who inspired and supported me, and co-created with me, as well as inanimate objects which proved being helpful.
